Flir Thermography Camera BCAM-SD
Every Equine Practitioner should have IR: an invaluable tool for equine diagnosis
Equine thermography is one of the most innovative new
non-invasive diagnostic techniques that can help you detect,
confirm and document a problem BEFORE the onset of a more
serious injury. Before thermography, veterinarians
could only locate a problem with observation or palpation but with
equine thermography, an abnormality – now called a thermographic
or infrared abnormality – can show tissue that’s stressed BEFORE the
affected tissue becomes damaged.
The ThermaCAM infrared camera is ideal for equine veterinary care
and is manufactured by FLIR Systems, the world’s largest manufacturer
of commercial-grade infrared cameras.
Over millennia of evolutionary time, horses have evolved so as to have
an ingrained tendency to mask their pain and lameness so as to protect
themselves in the wild. This makes finding a problem with a
horse – be it recreational, racing or show – extremely hard to find.
Researched and perfected over years of study and practice, today’s
new infrared cameras have undergone extensive clinical evaluations
and offer today’s veterinarian a newfound ability to locate medical
problems fast and pro-actively.
IN CLINICAL PRACTICE, EQUINE THERMOGRAPHY CAN:
• Act as a sensitive indicator of early inflammatory
change in soft tissues.
• Indicate the onset of inflammatory reaction in
joints and tendons up to two weeks prior to clinical
appearance of lameness.
• Visualize neuro-vascular changes or demonstrate
the effect of vaso-active substances.
